Meet your host

Julia Martin

Julia has farmed these eighteen acres since 2003 — organically, patiently, and with a soft spot for every animal on the place. She keeps rare Devon & Cornwall Longwool sheep, three Connemara ponies, rare-breed hens, two farm cats and Alba the Labrador, who adores meeting guests. Stay, and it's Julia who welcomes you.

Staying here

A day at Borough Farm

Dawn

The chorus starts before you do. Sunrise comes up over Dartmoor and straight into bed — The Yard and the yurt face east on purpose.

Morning

Feed rounds. The Connemara ponies hang their heads over the stable doors, the rare-breed hens are already busy, and Alba the Labrador will find you before you find her.

Afternoon

Walk the eighteen acres or the moor beyond. Swim wild at Lydford, climb Brentor, or do absolutely nothing in the orchard — we press our own apple juice from it.

Evening

Light your fire pit. Book the barrel sauna or a wood-fired hot tub and stay in until your shoulders drop. Once a week, the pizza oven comes out in the courtyard.

Night

Real dark-sky country. From The Granary you stargaze from under the covers; from the hot tub, the whole Milky Way.

That's it. That's the itinerary.

Philosophy

Our Commitment to Nature

At Borough Farm, we are deeply committed to nature and sustainability. We recognize the importance of protecting our planet and strive to minimize our impact on the environment. To that end, we have implemented a number of eco-friendly practices throughout our site. We use solar panels to generate electricity, and we have a system for collecting rainwater for use on the farm. We also compost all of our food waste and use organic, locally-sourced ingredients in our meals whenever possible.

We encourage our guests to adopt a responsible and respectful approach to nature. We enable guests to learn about the local ecology and wildlife, and we ask that they abide by our Leave No Trace policy when exploring the surrounding area. By promoting an understanding and appreciation of nature, we hope to inspire our guests to take similar actions in their own lives and communities, ultimately contributing to a healthier and more sustainable planet for all.
